Picea pungens ‘Stilton Cheese’

‘Stilton Cheese’ Colorado Spruce

  • Height: 20′ tall after 40 years (moderate growth rate)
  • Description: Like  Picea pungens ‘Golden Feathers’, ‘Stilton Cheese’ produces clear yellow new growth in spring.  The difference is that ‘Golden Feathers’ transitions into green  foliage whereas ‘Stilton Cheese’ finishes as a good blue (glauca) form.  ‘Stilton Cheese’ also has a wider, fuller habit than ‘Golden Feathers’.
  • Introduced: Selected by Charles Brotzman in the early 1970’s

Note: This selection no longer in production by Brotzman’s due to Rhizosphaera Needle Cast Disease (caused by the fungus Rhizosphaera kalkhoffi), which is killing Picea pungens, Colorado Spruce,  throughout the Midwest.
